AFRICA HEALTH DATA COLLECTION PROJECT
StrategiK ConZult is happy to announce the commencement of the Africa Health Data Collection Project. As has been variously recognized by industry experts, a fundamental challenge that has obfuscated planning, forecasting and advancement in the African healthcare and pharmaceutical sector is the absence of data. A systematic gathering, collation and analysis of data on all aspects of drug development, distribution and use as well as the facilities and resources at the various health institutions in Africa is vital for healthcare policy, planning, programs and forecasting. StrategiK ConZult has the vision to fill this gulf in the African healthcare and pharmaceutical sector. To this end, StrategiK ConZult has initiated the pilot phase of the health data collection project at Nigerian health institutions. This pilot phase is designed to get a feel on the possibility of gathering the sort of data needed to meet this need and to determine how best to gather this data on a long term basis across the region. We have entered into an arrangement with the major teaching hospitals and Federal Medical Centers across Nigeria to gather some preliminary data on:
- Physician Profiles: This captures the demographics of physicians practicing in the hospital and requires information such as name, specialty, institution attended and other key demographics on the physician.
- Facility Profiler: This captures the demographics of the hospital and includes hospital demographics such as number of beds and physician specialty counts.
- Script Monitor by Product: This captures the volume of drugs purchased by the hospital by key therapeutic areas and products.
- Script Monitor by Company: This captures the volume of drugs purchased by key therapeutic areas and drug company.
BENEFITS OF THIS PROJECT: This project is very important to many key stakeholders in the African pharmaceutical and healthcare sector. Some of these benefits include:
- Participating institutions: Access to a systematic collation and analysis of data which helps to track progress over time and to set goals and priorities for future growth.
- Nigerian Government: Insight into the prescription behavior of various health institutions, distribution of disease types across the nation, availability of facilities within the various institutions, etc. This is very important for identifying areas of need and for development of state and national health improvement programs.
- Development Agencies: Evidence of development needs in the healthcare sector within the country which will facilitate the provision of grants and development assistance.
- Investors into the African Pharmaceutical Sector: Access to data and insight for making decisions on investments into the African healthcare and pharmaceutical sector.
- Participating Physicians: Participating physicians will gain exposure and enjoy the opportunity to have their skills, experience and expertise documented and showcased to global research institutions and pharmaceutical companies who may be in search of Investigators for research or clinical trials.
